Frequently Asked Questions:
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT MY FIRST VISIT?
- Your first initial visit will take approximately 2 hours.
- First, we will review your full health history. Afterwards you will receive a full treatment.
DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT? WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
- Acupuncture does not usually hurt, it should actually be very relaxing. Sometimes you might feel a little pinch, but once the needles are inserted you should feel quite comfortable.
- Acupuncture needles are very different than traditional hypodermic needles. Acupuncture needles are much thinner needles that are solid. They are not hollow & used for drawing up a fluid like a traditional needle. The reason acupuncture needles do not hurt like a traditional needle is because they are so thin and 'hairlike'.
WHERE WILL THE NEEDES BE INSERTED?
- The location of where acupuncture needles are inserted is different for everyone.
- Sometimes the needles are placed in the location the patient is having the issue (called a local needle). Other times they are placed in distal points, which could be typically from the knees down and from the elbows down.
- There are acupuncture points and meridians running throughout the body - the reason you are choosing acupuncture will determine where the needles will be placed.
WILL I NOTICE RESULTS RIGHT AWAY?
- Usually people are able to feel a difference after the first visit, and if not, within the first first couple of visits.
- Sometimes acupuncture can be cumulative, which means people will need to experience a few visits in a row to realize that something has changed. Other people might feel very different right after where they might have a reduction in their pain, feel more relaxed, or sleep better that evening. Some people might feel a little sore and then feel better after.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO GET ACUPUNCTURE?
- How often you should get acupuncture depends on the patient - everyone is different.
- For those new to acupuncture, patients are encouraged to commit to a series of 4 visits (1 time per week for 4 weeks). This will create a cumulative process and help patients get better sense what's happening in their body over the course of treatment.
What Forms of payment do you accept? What about insurance?
- We ask that you make payments at the time service is rendered. Cash and check are acceptable forms of payment. If a check is returned, $20.00 will be charged to your account.
- Although we do not contract with insurance companies, some insurance companies will cover Acupuncture as an out of network benefit. If your insurance covers Acupuncture, we are happy to provide you with a receipt of service to be submitted by you if you choose.
- Note: If an herbal patent medication is recommended, only the cost of the herbs is added to your treatment fee. An additional fee may be added if individually formulated Chinese herbs are needed as part of your treatment, along with the cost of the herbs. If herbs need to be shipped to your home, a shipping fee will be applied as well.
